GSR Basements started with Bhupinder Sembhi — a man who learned every trade from the ground up and built a reputation in the GTA one project at a time. He didn't start with a big crew or a marketing budget. He started with knowledge, craftsmanship, and a refusal to cut corners.
His son Raj joined the business and spent four years in the field alongside his father — not in an office, but on job sites, learning what it actually takes to build something that lasts. Together, they made a decision: stop competing on price and start competing on standard.
Today, GSR focuses exclusively on basements and bathrooms — built by a trusted in-house crew and reliable licensed trades. Not because it's the easiest path. Because it's the only way to guarantee the quality they're willing to put their name on.

Most contractors lose money on a job and disappear, or start upselling mid-project. We price accurately upfront — even if it means losing the bid to someone who underpromises. A fixed-price contract means the number we give you is the number you pay. Full stop.
Anyone can build something that passes inspection. We build things that hold up in year twelve. That means moisture management done right, materials chosen for longevity, and never cutting scope just to protect a margin. If something needs to be done, we do it — even if we didn't price for it.
When a project is finished, Raj walks through every room. Not to check boxes — to ask one question: would I be proud to show this to the next client? If the answer is yes, we hand over the keys. That standard applies to what you can see and everything you can't.

Most basement failures aren't visible on day one. They show up in year three, year five, year eight — as mold behind the drywall, efflorescence on the concrete, or a musty smell that never goes away. This is what we obsess over before a single piece of framing goes up.
We inspect the foundation, drainage, grading, and any existing moisture intrusion before scope is agreed.
Weeping tile, sump pump condition, and floor drain placement are verified and addressed where needed.
Spray foam or rigid insulation applied correctly against the foundation wall — no shortcuts, no gaps.
Every wet area — showers, bathroom floors — is waterproofed with a pro liquid membrane plus a Schluter base before tile goes down. Full Schluter KERDI system available as a recommended upgrade.
